NEWS FLASH!!!
- April 3, 2008
I finally had the time to get a link up to the yahoo email group for
the magazine. I will be utilizing this group for advertising deadline
details as well as basic information for the magazine. If you are an
advertiser, subscriber, contributing writer, or fan of the magazine in
any way - please take a moment to join the group. I'm sure it will be a
low content group as it is being ran as a news group only. It will help
ME stay in touch with all of you in a much more condensed fashion
though.
Thanks everyone!
Sincerely,
Mary Magee, editor

The newest issue has gone to the printer and WOW what an issue--52
pages of whippets everywhere!! Our last issue is out of stock, don't
miss out on this one folks! If you're not subscribed or your due for
renewal (I'll be updating that info online over the next couple days)
do so right away!
Thank you to all advertisers and authors for making this one so special!
Sincerely,

Just a heads up that the current issue (Vol 7 Iss 6) is now totally
sold out. Anyone renewing or subscribing will have their subscription
start up with the next issue (Vol 8 Iss 1). Speaking of, I'm currently
working on the layout and the next issue will be out before the AWC
National in April and will be posted prior to my departure for the
event. If you wish to pick your copy up at the national (I will be
there from Sunday through Thursday) please contact me before April 13th.

To all readers, authors and advertisers,
A year comes and goes ... all too quickly it seems. Happy New Year to
all of you and here's hoping 2008 is filled with great things for
everyone!
Now for the important info I have to share with you ...
As I stated late last year on the magazine's website
(http://whippetwatch.com), I started a full time job in September
working late nights. That has definitely had a big influence on the
magazine's production, as has a noticable drop in advertising. In turn,
this issue has taken much longer to get to all of you, for which my
sincere apology is extended. Some things are within my control to which
I am working with a couple other designers that will be adding their
expertise in the coming issues.
As to things out of my control ... my hopes are that with the new year
ads will start to increase. Unfortunately, without ads there is no
magazine as that is what pays for the production (i.e. printing) costs.
A heads up for those who have not visited the website, please take some
time to do so. Once there you will see that all the ads that are in the
Whippet Watch are
also now uploaded to the site under the issue that they appear in. This
is an added advantage for our advertisers - not only do they receive
their printed ad which hits over 12 countries but also it will be
viewed by those who browse our site (over 2000 page views a month).
On to this issue ... I'm thrilled to have the articles in this issue to share with all of you! The article A Boy And His Working Dog
is about a Whippet that assists his diabetic boy. This is one that
warms the heart and shows to us just how versitile and intelligent our
beloved breed is.
Another article I would like to draw attention to is the Early Neurological Stimulation. While this is aimed at performance stimulation, I find it to be very appropriate to anyone breeding/rearing puppies.
Lastly, I’d like to thank Kim White and Erin Campbell of Kimera Whippets for their willingness to do The Breeder’s Forum on very short notice. I’m sure their kennel story will be well read also.
If you have comments, requests or suggestions, please drop us a line!

To help everyone stay up to date on their subscription, I will be
listing the expired and one issue remaining subscribers on a page of
the website, address for that page is
http://whippetwatch.com/renewaldue.html. Check back there periodially
to make sure you aren't on that list. Renewal cards will still be
mailed with all of the FINAL issues to everyone's subscription, however
due to many of the renewal cards being lost in the mail as well as
returned (for various reasons) that are mailed out individually I will
not be continuing that any longer. Always refer to the front of your
envelope as the issue number is listed for everyone's final issue above
their name.
If you are wanting to get an ad in Vol. 8 Iss 1 please be sure to get
in touch with Sally or myself right away. We want to make this issue
really phenomenal (ok I want ot make every issue phenomenal).
Take care and have a Happy Howloween!

Since I started a full time job last month, things have been very
hectic here to say the least! The first three weeks I worked "day
hours" which that in itself was really tough (I am *not* a morning
person) but thankfully have switched to what I lovingly refer to as my
vampiric hours, 6:30 PM to 3:00 AM. I'm very much a night person and
these hours work best for me. However, I'm still trying to learn how to
balance working on the magazine, working my job, caring for the dogs
and home as well as finding a bit of nap time. In turn I've decided to
accept ads til September 29th at the regular ad rate for this coming
issue and that will allow for me to work on the ones I already have,
get the articles laid out and still give everyone time to get their
special page in.
If you have already submitted your ad, PLEASE feel free to send me any
updates you want added to your ad. I will start sending ad proofs out
by this Friday, the 14th.
Also I have events to attend every weekend this month so if you will be
at the Gardner IL race 9/15 & 9/16, Antioch IL race 9/22 &
9/23, Hamilton OH 9/29 & 9/30 and want to get your ad to me there
or need photos done for them just let me know and I will be sure to
have my camera with me. If you wish to subscribe (or renew) at one of
these events I will have the current issue with me and will gladly get
you set up.
Other news here ... I have a litter in whelp that I am very excited
about and once the pups are here I will be even more spread out time
wise (puppies ARE the best time waster, are they not?). Those who want
to get an ad in the issue after this (Vol 8 Iss 1) and would like to
design their own ad, please feel free :-). All of the specs are on the
advertise page.
As always, thank you to each and every one of the supporters of the Whippet Watch, the magazine would be nothing but a bunch of blank white sheets of paper without you!!!!!
Yours in whippets,

Well ... the new
(awesome) issue should start getting to everyone on Monday (7/30). The
binder, again, caused me a major migraine by taking more than twice as
long as they should. Unfortunately they have us between a rock and a
hard place since there are only two binding companies in all of Indy
... I hate how the other one does things and they rarely can get
anything turned around in less than 8 working days so I'm stuck with
this one.
I picked up the mag late Friday and thanks to Kristen (my youngest son,
Patch's girlfriend) and Danielle (my daughter in law) we packaged all
envelopes, sorted and boxed them ready for mailing out in a matter of 2
1/2 hours (that IS a record!!!), but it was too late to mail it. So I
was up and out of the house before 830 Saturday morning making the
drive to the PO that I have to use for my bulk mailing ... 2 hours
later all magz were processed and enroute (yes it takes 2 hours after I
GET to the post office for everything to be mailed out).
Out I go to get in my car to head home and what do my eyes spy but my
radiator blew its cool so to speak. Antifreeze all over the parking lot
and the car was WAY too hot to open. I did manage to get it home but
it's not moving for awhile. Hopefully this week I can get it back on
the road as I JUST got hired for a full time job and will be starting
on August 13th, so transport is a high priority ;).
Oh that brings up something else with the magazine...
Since I do now have a full time job, I will be dependant on everyone
getting all of their ads and articles in to me on a VERY timely basis.
All ad deadlines are listed on the magazine's website
http://whippetwatch.com/ads.html The next issue's first ad
deadline (the one that you get a $10 discount for) is AUGUST 4th!!!!!
Please, please, let me know right away if you will be sending in any ad
or article and be sure to get everything to me promptly.
Since I have not worked outside the home in about 6 or 7 years now I
really am depending on everyone to help me out by being on top of
things!
Thanks everyone, and so far everyone who's seen this issue is highly
impressed, it's been rated "Thee BEST ever"! I really look forward to
hearing everyone's thoughts when they get there's so please do post!!!!

Well the new issue,
Vol. 7 Issue 5, is at the printers and due back mid next week barring
any printing or bindery issues and OH is it a dandy! Color covers,
color inside covers, color color color!!! I have to say that I'm
thrilled to have this much color in one issue. Thank you to *all* of the
advertisers, you all came through in grand style and I so appreciate
it. Without each of you there would be no magazine!
I'm also very
excited over this issue's front cover as I again was given total
artisitc control over it and it looks wonderful. Having a great
subject, a photo with just the right pose and the subject's name gave
way for a great cover. Thank you to all of Luna's owners/breeders for
giving me this opportunity!
A big thank you also goes out to all of the authors for the articles in
this issue, especially to Jammin' Whippets for coming through on such a
tight deadline for the Breeder's Forum and to Louise Hoelscher for the last minute help with the racing dogs' Top Dog Stats.
Now for the coming issue ... yes I have already started layout work on
it and ads are already being accepted. Remember early ad submissions
receive a $10 discount making a FULL PAGE (b/w) a very modest $65! The
early submission date is August 4th, 2007. The regular deadline is
August 11th and late deadline (which incurs a $20 rush fee) is set for
August 18th. Get with us soon if you want your
ad viewed by Whippet owners, breeders and exhibitors as well as all US
Resident AKC Hound Group judges!! E-mail Sally or me to let us know if you will be sending in an ad and do so very soon if you are wanting a special spot.

As of now, all ads from
Volume 7 Issue 4 are now on the website. We hope all our viewers enjoy
this new addition to the website. This gives our advertisers a lot
more coverage for their advertising dollar and the WW is all about
giving as much advantage as possible!
Also, our ad and article deadline for the coming issue is set for June
22nd and we still have some open spots. If you're interested in having
your ad in the WW please be sure to contact Sally or me (via the
contact us page) right away. Remember that the Whippet Watch is the
only all Whippet magaine mailed free to all AKC Hound Group judges and
all ads will also appear on our website, double advertising for the
lowest rate in printed dog breed magazines!

In my haste to get the new website up, I inadvertantly omitted that
all half or full
page ads in the magazine will also appear on the website after the
issue has been mailed out and given time to be received by the
subscribers (usually within ten days). I will be getting the ads up
from the past, but it may take some time to collect all previous
issues' ads.
Additionally, since there are several issues that are out of stock, I
am attempting to convert all issues into
PDFs. Once a complete volume is finished, I will offer these for sale
on CD with printing (in whole) rights.
This will allow the purchaser to take the CD to any Kinko's type of
business and have a complete magazine printed if the purchaser does not
have a printer of their own. Watch this space for information on the
CDs as it becomes available.

- June 6, 2007
Now the Whippet Watch is offering "classified" style ads in both the
printed magazine and the website! Details are listed on the "Advertise"
page including rates for each of the new sections (Breeders, Litterbox,
Handlers). Please be sure to check that information out and if you are
interested in this, drop Sally or I a line!
Also, since you're visiting the site it's obvious there have been a few
changes. It had been quite some time since I'd preformed a total
revamping (and after this one taking about a week I can promise it
won't happen again for sometime) we hope that the new site is well
received. Funny how it went from me wanting to make a few small changes
to THIS, but I always enjoy a challenge <grinning>. Enjoy
the new
site everyone!!

June 2007
Just a fast heads up for those interested in getting articles or ads in
the coming issue (Vol. 7 Iss. 5). I have extended the deadline to June
22nd and I am waving the late submission fee (please see the Advertise
page for requirements on predesigned ads). Remember this issue will be
the one with all AWC National results. It will also have some amazing
articles that I'm looking very forward to sharing with all of the
readers!
Here's hoping
everyone's
having a great start to their summer! May it bring many great memories
to you all. I'll be hanging out at the race track enjoying the outdoors
and great times with friends and my whippets, hope to see some of you
there!!
Respectfully
yours,

March 2007
Another issue designed, printed, packaged and mailed (3/24/07), Vol 7
Iss 4! Where have the past eight years gone? It's amazing that it's
been that long ago that I was busily getting the first Whippet Watch
ready for it's unveiling at the 1999 AWC National! I know how blessed I
am to have had such wonderful support through this issue after issue -
I thank each and every one of you!
Well the new
issue has
some changes, the main one is my decision to do away with the full
listing of new titles. The work and time involved in finding, reading
and typing in all of the information from the AKC awards book (which is
all done in 7 point type) was no walk in the park! Thank you to Pat
Hardy (Mandolin Borzoi) for all her time and patience with the titles
listings, amazingly she never complained once! However, all of the
organizations' top dog stats will be published (as they always have
been) in the Top Dogs section.
There are
still a few of
the 2007 Calendars available. I will have some on hand at the AWC
National in Kansas, and the profit from all of those sold there will go
to the Whippet Health Foundation so be sure to pick one up!!
Since the
start of the
Whippet Watch in 1999, our subscription rates have never changed even
though there have been at least five postage increases. However, with
yet another postage increase this year subscriptions will be increase
$1.50 per issue. This will take our rates to: $57 US residents, $67
Canada/Mexico residents and, $79 Overseas residents.
One more
change in the way
advertising rates will be handled from this point forward. Those who
get their ads in early will recive a $10 off discount, those who submit
ads well past the deadline will have a $20 rush fee applied.
These new
rates have been
found to be neccessary due to the high number of late submissions and
the countless nights of no sleep to meet my own deadline of getting the
layouts completed, proofs sent out and sending the files off to the
printer.
As with all
of the
previous issues, thank you to everyone who has contributed. For me on a
personal basis ... this issue itself was a tough one with the passing
of several and tribute pages it contains. It will aways be a special
issue for me and I hope for all of you.
Respectfully
yours,
Mary Magee,

December 2006
Thank you to those who've taken the time to let me know that the new
size and printing methods are well received and appreciated! I'm
thrilled that the magazine has gotten so much praise! As stated before,
it is a new process and it's been a learning lesson for me, all in all
I'm very pleased with the new look and moreso that everyone else is!
Now for a bit
of an update
with things here in the office. The 2007 Calendar is out now, it was
something I had seriously considered not doing this year but I am so
happy I did! This one has some absolutely amazing images, very creative
and stylish! Sales have gone pretty well even though it came out later
than I'd hoped for. Sometimes waiting for the right image pays
off
... and this time is certainly one of those! Thank you to
everyone who sponsored a page and for all the presale orders! If you
haven't gotten yours yet, please do so soon as there will not be a
reprint on this one.
On to the
next issue: Vol.
7 Iss. 4. The ad deadline will be pushed back to January 25th, 2007 to
allow everyone a bit of time to rest after the busy Holiday Season.
With the end of the year right around the corner, holiday expenses for
everyone, an issue of my other publication (The Borzoi Digest) to
complete, and my printer being closed from mid December til after the
New Year it seems the best solution. If you have not reserved your spot
yet, please do so promptly by emailing me or Sally from the contacts
page, either of us will be happy to assist you. For those wishing to do
a tribute, there are special rates for those which are listed on the
rates page, please scroll to the bottom of the page for that
information. Also there are new pre designed ad specs listed on that
page for those of you preferring to do your own ad design. Please note
that information as well as the info on what files are not accepted.
Last, but by
no means
least ... thank you to every person who has made another year fly by
with great support, each author, advertiser and subscriber. YOU are the
backbone, you are what makes the Watch what it is! Thank you from the
bottom of my heart and may 2007 be wonderful for all of you! Here's to
another year of YOUR Watch!

October 2006
Vol. 7 Iss. 3's advertising and article deadline has been extended to
October 13th! We will be going to a new format size to allow full
bleeds of all ads. Also we will now be running the magazine direct to

product!!! We are thrilled about these changes and hope you will be
too! If you are wanting to place an ad and haven't touched base with
us, please do so (via the contact page).

Vol. 7
Iss. 2's advertising and article deadline has been extended due to a
delay in National photos arriving to some advertisers. We hope this
slight extension will help those who are looking forward to sharing
their news with all of our readers! If you are wanting to place an ad
and haven't touched base with us, please do so (via the contact page).

December 2005
Well there's been a few delays with Vol. 6 Issue 6, however it will be
hitting the post mid this month. Deepest apologies for this untimely,
but neccessary, delay.
Part of the
cause of the
delay was on a personal level as I (Mary) just went through
relocating and setting up a new home and office. I'm very hopeful that
this will be a very positive energy filled change of life and that
the creative juices will flow like the great tides. The new
mailing address is:
Whippet Watch
c/o Mary Magee
P.O. Box 31098
Indianapolis,
IN 46231
At
this time all
phone calls will be directed to Sally also. If you need to speak
directly with me please drop me an email or give Sally a call at
618.466.3066 and leave your name and number, I will get back to you
right away. I apologize for this inconvenience, but at this time it is
unavoidable.
Due to this
delay Vol. 7
Issue 1's deadline has also been extended to January 12th, 2006. We
hope this gives everyone a bit more time after the Holidays. Please
contact Sally Long, Ads Consultant for details/information on placing
an ad through our "Contacts" page.
Deep
appreciation for the kindness and care of those who have been
tremendously supportive through this event, as well as everyone's kind
understanding and continued dedication to the magazine!

November 2005
Wow! The end of another Volume. How time flies when you're having fun!
Thank you to everyone for making this, another year, so successful - I
certainly couldn't do it without you!
The coming
issue, Vol. 6
Iss. 6 is expected to mail by November 30th, 2005. This one
is a
little different than most of our previous issues for a few
reasons. Recently Pat Hardy, who does all of the AKC data entry,
relocated to another state. In turn the Stats that normally appear in
each issue have been held. Those will return with the next issue. There
is a multi page tribute to a very important Whippet in our breed,
MBIS/MSBIS Am Can Ch. Sporting Fields Kinsman, ROMX, as well as several
pages for SBIS Ch Bohem Circus Runaway and some of his get. Our article
quantity will go back to normal as of the next issue.
For those
wishing to
submit an ad or article for Vol. 7 Iss. 1, the tentative deadline is
December 12th, 2005. If you would like information on available ad
positions please contact our Ads Consultant, Sally Long, through our
"Contact" page. We do still have some prime spots available.
Again, thank
you all for your support and dedication to making the Whippet Watch such a great publication and
something that I am deeply proud of!

August 2005
As most know, the Whippet Watch (and Borzoi Digest
& 1st Choice Collars) is produced by one person. There has
never
been an official staff of layout artists, designers, promotion
specialists ... only one person with a few terrific friends who
assisted out of kindness to proof read article submissions and the
printing and binding companies who do the physical production of each
issue. To say this one person (yours truly) stays busy is putting it
mildly, and I've for several years now had many weeks of no sleep to
keep both magazines as timely as humanly possible.
As age is
creeping up on
me, I have to admit that I have to make some modifications to my work
habits. One changes is that all advertising submissions will now go
through Sally Long, our new onstaff Advertising Consultant, she can be
emailed through the Contact page.
Another
change is the
office hours will now be: Monday - Friday; 9 am to 4 pm (Eastern Time).
All calls need to be during these hours please. While this
may
cause a bit of a slower production time and in turn a bit of
a
delay in receiving your new issues, however quality will not be
compromized.
Lastly, as of
the end of
July 2005 all website work will be managed by Evan Lamb, a very
talented artist/designer who works in multiple mediums. I'm thrilled to
have him onboard too!
I'm
appreciative of all those who have offered support and understanding
with these changes!
