Statue of the Queen welcomes all
A gated entrance
One building across from the Castle
Note the gold gilt on the top of the gate, the crowns atop all lamps.
Also in this shot you can see the Union Jack (flag) flying which shows onlookers
that the Queen is in residence. Unfortunately no we didn't see her during
our visit.
Can you say WOW?
Bridget (left) and Tracy (right) were my personal tour guides who enjoyed
the tour I think as much as I!
This hangs by the ticket desk and shows just how large the whole castle
and accompanying gardens and outter wall truly are.
Me taking the previous shot.
Bridget enjoying the tour
Another of me with one of the tour people ahead of us in the cape.
The larger window with a balcony off of it is off of a room they use
for their "dine and sleeps" which is when guests come for dinner, stay
the night and depart after morning breakfast.
In thi shot you can see the archer slits in the outter wall as well as
the section that the Queen resides.
See the cannon?
Close up of an archer slit from the outside
One of the outter gardens
Tracy on our way to inside the outter wall
Tracy showing us the audio guide
Gargoyles (water spouts)
Close up of the gargoyles
Another, but different, gargoyle
Walking through the main gate
Me walking through the main gate thinking "WOW I'm REALLY here!!" Yes
I was quite thrilled with seeing such a hisorical place.
A good shot showing the Union Jack flying
A knight fighting a dragon
Close up of one of the crown topped lamps
Close up of a massive statue
Told you it was massive!
There was no stopping at attention to detail!
A Sentry
Keeping guard
And his little box
Tracy and Mary with one Sentry, poor man couldn't have been much older
than my son!
Just inside the outter wall. The "cubby holes" are actually where the
archers would be positioned...
An archer slit from the inside looking out.
One of the gardens
Absolutely breath taking
Close up of the water fountain
The steep hill side
From all angles it is simply beautiful.
An old cannon
The view from here goes on for miles
Tracy and Bridget standing by the wall that overlooks miles and miles
of lovely view.
Another shot of the Union Jack flying high
Dated 1887
Note the size here, the cannon is by no means small but it sure seems
to be compared to the Castle.
A VERY old cannon, I believe dated around the first century.
and another
I really like this shot!
The first sign of rain, drops on my lens
See the holes at the top of the tower? A great defense if anyone gets
this close!
What is that on the right side???
Looks like a whippet to me!
To the far left is the gate we exited through, far right just a bit of St.
George's Chapel.
St. George's Chapel, burial sight for many previous Kings and Queens,
unfortunately I was so dumbfounded by this point I totally forgot to go in
even tho Bridget and Tracy asked if I'd like to! I was VERY overwhemled
Last glance before our departure.
