She is at the start of her 5th week and just a bit over half way through the pregnancy. She is her happy jovial self times two, super snuggly and has the royal treatment of sleeping in my bed with me. Stay tuned to see how she "grows"! |
![]() Last weekend we battled a bit of a GI problem with KIA and had a vet trip just to make sure all was ok on Monday. Dr. Shannon gave her a good go over and ran a fecal just to make sure there wasn't anything "hiding" (which there wasn't). KIA's back to herself and just as bouncy as ever! Her weight was 32.5 lbs, so she's had a 4 lb weight gain. We've hit the 6th week and are preparing for the impending whelping. As of next week she will be moved to the whelping area and I'll be monitoring her activities from work via webcam! Friends & puppy owners-to-be will be allowed to view the webcam privately before and during whelping as well as puppy days. I've never done the webcam thing but am very excited to have this option this time around! Well as of yesterday, KIA moved to her whelping pen complete with lots of soft thick bedding. She seems comfortable and happy with her "condo"and the breakfast (and dinner) in bed treatment! As you can see from the photos before she's expanded quite a lot from the photo taken 5 days ago. It's funny ... I didn't realize just HOW much she'd grown until I looked at the photos side by side, it's a subtle change day by day so it's harder to notice when you're with them all the time I guess. Anyway ... enjoy the new shots and if you're on the KiaKam browser enjoy the videos too ... only 2 weeks to go!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tuesday we headed to the vet for a final check up and xray for a puppy count. KIA's weight gain at this point is 6 lbs and the xray revealed what appeared to be seven pups. The shot taken while on her back showed one pup already in position and ready to go, unfortunately it was pretty light and hard to really read so we did a side shot too and that showed us that not only is the one pup in the ready, but three more looked like they were stacked one on top of another right behind the first pup ... all four of these are head first so the whelping should go very well and easily (in theory). The other ?three? are scattered. The vet felt that with her temp being in the 99s plus with the one pup right at the cervix she would go within 48 hours - it's past that time period now but her actual due date isn't until Oct. 8th so ... we're still waiting! ![]() KIA now has a total girth gain of 8 1/4" around her loin ... she's very large, and as you can see in this shot she's NOT amused at my laughing at her big belly. KIA whelped on day 62 from the first breeding via c section after being in labor (but never pushing) for 28 hours. All went perfectly with the surgery thanks to Dr. Gal at the Airport ER Center, THANKS Dr. Gal! |
